With so many different types of home flooring materials it can seem impossible to choose which one will best suit your needs. Hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank, carpet, tile, and stone are all great options and will add value to your new home.

We’ve compiled a list of flooring options offered by Sierra Flooring through designQ and outlined the benefits to help you choose which type fits your lifestyle.

Hardwood

Hardwood floors are beautiful and long-lasting and make an elegant choice for nearly any room in your home. With so many different variations of colour, graining, and texture, hardwood makes a distinctive statement and creates a floor that’s unique to you.

There are two basic choices for hardwood floor construction – solid or engineered. Solid planks are created from a single piece of 4” wood where engineered planks can be much wider and have a layered construction to provide stability. While durable, the purchase and installation can be quite costly, and you will need to decide if hardwood floors are right for you and your budget.

Laminate

Laminate is a popular choice for home flooring because of its versatility. It can be installed anywhere in your home without fear of water damage or stains.

There are styles of laminate that convey the authentic look of wood or the classic appeal of ceramic tile. Some offer beveled, distressed, and textured options which gives laminate flooring the look and feel of hardwood. Whether you’re re-modeling your kitchen or developing your basement, laminate is a great potential choice for any project.

Luxury Vinyl Plank

Many people are surprised to learn that vinyl plank flooring is not the same as laminate flooring, but they are very similar. Luxury vinyl plank is created by printing the same design in layers on the vinyl, this allows the floor to have levels of the same image which means gouges and cuts won’t show up.

Luxury vinyl plank comes in click or glue down products to make every application possible and is waterproof to make sure your floors are covered against spills, stains, and accidents. This type of flooring is a durable option and performs very well in any room in your home.

Tile & Stone

Most common in kitchens and bathrooms, tile and stone offer so many colours, shapes, and textures that make a tiled floor or wall so stylish. You can get very creative with your tile installation by mixing sizes and patterns and no matter how you choose your tile style, it’s sure to make a statement.

Tile and stone are one of the most practical and durable flooring materials available. It resists stains and scratches and is extremely easy to clean, making it a great choice for rooms that see a lot of wear or moisture.

Carpet

Carpet offers so many design possibilities while also being soft, warm, quiet, and comfortable. With new innovations in stain resistance, carpet provides excellent value. Stains and soils are less of an issue these days with stain proof treatments available which enhances the performance and longevity of your carpet.

There are two types of carpet available: cut pile and loop/berber style. Cut pile is where the yarn loops are cut and twisted tightly together which makes it very soft and durable and gives a fresh, updated look. Loop/berber style carpet is extremely durable and great for high-traffic areas where it maintains its appearance long-term.
